In addition to Landfill Community Fund Projects, Score Environment has significant experience of undertaking numerous environmental consultancy and research projects in partnership with leading organisations such as the Caledonian Environment Centre at Glasgow Caledonian University, or on its own.  Such projects have primarily focused on waste but more recently broadened out to include renewable energy, particularly in relation to the recovery of energy from organics waste sources.
Projects and clients include:

  • Remade Scotland – Score Environment was contracted to deliver a major research programme on behalf of Scottish Government between 2001 and 2007.  The project was the first in the UK to take an initial focus on the value of recyclate materials as a means of stimulating recycling (www.remade.org.uk).  Latterly the programme looked at market failures particularly with regard to local authority recycling and the need for intervention measures (Project Partner – Caledonian Environment Centre).
  • Waste Aware Scotland - Score worked closely with the Scottish Waste Awareness Group, securing £550,000 of funding essential to the birth of the national campaign we are now so familiar with
  • Renfrewshire Recycling Strategy – Score has continued to support Renfrewshire Council in the delivery of local recycling services for a range of housing types, through targeted intervention campaigns.  Moving from a normal weekly waste collection service to a managed weekly service of recycling and residual waste collection.  With the support of Score, the council has been able to demonstrate a significant increase in recycling rates, following the introduction of new services.
  • West Dunbartonshire Council – The Council proposed significant changes to the patterns of waste and recyclate collection.  Score Environment was able to provide resources to assist during two intensive periods of changeover, with minimum impact or complaints from the public.
  • North Lanarkshire Council – A study was commissioned to determine the impact of new Taylor nodes in high rise flatted properties.  It was concluded that suitable location of the nodes at the entrance to the property and optimised servicing made a useful contribution to overall council recycling with overwhelming numbers of residents happy with the service.
  • Renewable Energy Feasibility Study – this project considered 5 renewable energy technologies for a new £1m Community Centre in Scotland.  Preferred option was a 50kW turbine with the associated tariff incentives.  Other solutions were not practical or economically feasible at this time.  (Project Partner – Caledonian Environment Centre)
